Overview
This licence setup starts with Business Basic for the core workspace and adds Copilot Business as the AI layer. The result is a lightweight Microsoft environment built around business email, Teams, cloud storage, web apps, and everyday collaboration.
That makes it a practical choice for firms that do not need desktop Office on every machine. Instead of over-licensing the whole team, the business can keep the base plan lean and still give users AI support where it improves day-to-day output.
Best For
- Teams that spend most of the working day in browser-based and mobile Microsoft 365 apps.
- Businesses that want professional email, Microsoft Teams, and cloud file access in one subscription.
- Smaller companies looking for an affordable Microsoft 365 starting point that can also support Copilot.
- Users whose work is mostly built around messages, summaries, drafting, and routine content tasks.
Included Tools
The Business Basic side includes custom business email, Microsoft Teams, 1 TB of cloud storage per user, and web and mobile versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. It also includes additional apps such as Bookings, Planner, and Forms.
The Copilot Business side adds AI-powered chat connected to work data and Copilot features for eligible customers with a qualifying base plan. In practice, this helps users prepare drafts, shorten repetitive writing, organise information, and move faster through routine tasks.
Key Benefits
- Matches browser-first work more closely than a desktop-led subscription.
- Adds AI support without forcing a move to a heavier base plan.
- Brings meetings, email, file sharing, and lightweight productivity into one Microsoft 365 setup.
- Gives smaller teams a straightforward path to start using Copilot in daily work.
What to Know Before You Buy
Business Basic does not include the full installable desktop versions of Office apps. If users depend heavily on desktop Word, Excel, Outlook, or PowerPoint every day, a higher base plan is usually the better choice.
Copilot Business requires a separate licence for an eligible Microsoft 365 plan, and Business Basic is one of the supported options. Microsoft’s business plan family is intended for organisations with up to 300 users.
This combination works best when Microsoft 365 is already the main place for email, meetings, shared files, and routine teamwork.
