Many companies tend to focus their security efforts on external threats such as phishing attacks and malware, often overlooking the potential dangers posed by internal factors. Yet, insiders -whether intentionally or inadvertently - can pose significant risks to a company's information security.
Data Loss Prevention (DLP) systems act as a crucial line of defence, scrutinizing the flow of data within an organization. These systems analyze all data movements to identify sensitive information, therefor preventing unauthorized transfers by means of sophisticated algorithms.
The essence of DLP lies in its rule-based approach. Any breach triggers notifications to designated personnel, ensuring swift action to mitigate potential risk. The implementation of DLP involves collaboration between the IT Partner and the client, defining data types, specifying policy parameters, and executing configurations.
Responsibilities are clearly delineated: the IT Partner assists in the policy formulation and setup, while the client coordinates internal resources, provides a point of contact, and manages external vendors and network equipment configuration.
The engagement plan encompasses various stages, including a kick-off meeting, thorough data collection, crafting of a detailed statement of work, policy creation, resolution of any issues, and final verification. Success is measured by the adherence to the statement of work, and the effective configuration of DLP policies.
Key prerequisites for DLP implementation include a Microsoft 365 subscription with specific services such as Exchange Online, or SharePoint Online. The plan is flexible, specifically tailored to the unique requirements of each client, with milestones marked by crucial meetings, data collection exercises, policy crafting, and successful implementation.
Upon project completion, a comprehensive closeout report is provided detailing project status, compliance with acceptance criteria, outstanding issues, and final budget figures. For those requiring further documentation, additional services are available for an extra fee.
