Is perimeter security dead?

Not entirely. Perimeter controls such as edge firewalls, branch security appliances, and some VPN use cases still matter, especially in hybrid environments with on-premises systems, legacy apps, or operational technology. What no longer works is the old assumption that anything inside the corporate network should be trusted automatically. In a Microsoft 365 environment, the perimeter can still exist, but it cannot remain the primary trust boundary.
